A visit to the Sahara desert is definitely an experience everyone should have at least once in their lifetime. It is a journey well worth the effort and you will have fond memories to last you forever. Imagine yourself on top a camel, trekking through the Sahara desert. There is nothing around you and all you can hear are the footsteps of the camel on the soft sand. The sky is vast and clear in the day and filled with millions of bright stars at night. It is a very peaceful experience, one relay known to most of the Western World.

Day 1: Arrive Marrakech

You will meet at the airport for your international flight to Morocco. Upon arrival in Marrakech you will be met and transferred to the hotel/riad. Depending on the time you arrive, the rest of the afternoon is free time. Marrakech is known as the city of 1001 night. In the evening you will have time to relax and prepare for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Marrakech- Ras n khel

This morning you will have a welcome briefing with your guide. You will then set off by private vehicle towards the Ouarzazat through the dramatic Tizi nTichka pass which reaches an altitude of 2260m. The High Atlas Mountains are surrounded by beautiful landscapes and Berber villages and Anti-Atlas Mountains on a beautiful drive along the fertile Draa Valley, with its kasbah and ksours surrounded by thousands of palm trees. As we pass Zagora the scenery becomes more arid and the first geographical signs of the desert begin to appear. When we reach Mhamid, the last oasis before the Sahara, , camp overnight.

Day 3: Ouled Dress - Ait Ounir

Approx. 5 hours walking

Today we wake up refreshed after our first night camping in the desert.We will make the most of the cool temperatures in the morning as we start our first day trekking.we will meet the caravan As we follow the camels the pace will be gentle as we trek past the cliffs of the southern Draa. We will climb our first dunes at Ait Ounir, before arriving into our camp for the night. The camp is surrounded by tamarisk trees, which bring welcome relief from the sun and is an ideal canopy for dining under.

Day 4: Ait Ounir – Erg Smar

Approx. 5 hours trekking

On a clear day we can watch a beautiful sunrise over the dunes, before starting another fascinating walking day through the desert. We head north today via the Erg Zager dunes to cross the Draa dry river, the longest in Morocco. Occasionally tamaris trees will appear between the dunes and you will be able to see the impressive Jebel Bani mountain chain in the distance. In the afternoon we will reach our camp at Erg Smar. Today’s walk has spectacular scenery that will leave a lasting impression.

Day 5: Erg Smar – Djebel Bani Foothills

Approx. 5 hours walking

We have another brilliant day ahead of us in the tranquillity and vastness of the desert. Our adventure continues as we head in the direction of Djebel Bani via the impressive plateau known as the Djebel Bani foothills. At night we will camp near the banks of Ouled Mzouaria.

Day 6 : Djebel Bani foothills – Ouled Driss

Approx. 5 hours trekking

For our last full day of trekking we head towards the palmeries of Ouled Driss via the impressive dunes of Erg Lihoudi. We will start to re-enter civilisation here as you notice the irrigation canals that feed the extensive agricultural network in this area. We will enjoy our final night camping under the stars.

Day 7: Ouled Driss – Marrakech

After breakfast we make our way to our waiting vehicles to take us back over the Atlas Mountains to the vibrant city of Marrakesh. After check in at the hotel you will have free time to explore the Medina before having a celebration in the evening at a traditional Moroccan restaurant.

Day 8: Marrakech

You can spend your final day as you please, exploring the beautiful environment of Marrakech.We hope that you have enjoyed your taste of Morocco and all it has to offer and wish you well on your onward journey.
